Solomon looked at relationships as a source of support, comfort, and strength. Like a rope comprised of individual cords, our relationship-threads weave the fabric of our lives: Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up. Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm- but how can one be warm alone? Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a three fold cord is not quickly broken. (Eccles. 4:9-12) Unfortunately, sometimes we dont realize the importance of our relationships until a crisis occurs, such as a debilitating disease or, worse, the death of a loved one. Then we lament, I should have spent more time with her, or I wish we had been able to talk openly with each other. Our frantic pace can blind us to the reality that true happiness is not found by attaining those goals but is the by-product of fulfilling relationships.
